Transforming Urban Spaces For Common Good

Description
This talk is part of the "Be Inspired" programme at A Good Space - a community-curated public space at NVPC, co-hosted by Founding Curator Anthea Ong, that aims to bring ideas and people together, for good

Too often, and in so many places in the world, we see underutilised public spaces that are unused and unloved by the locals despite the large amount of investment that went into them. Taking a holistic, human-centred approach is key to creating places people love.

Join us for an evening with Julia Suh, Founder of Urban Toolbox, a human-centred design consultancy that transforms valuable urban spaces for the common good.

Come hear about Urban Toolbox's mission and how they create meaningful and memorable experiences that increase visitation to spaces, economic activity and social trust.

Learn how Urban Toolbox reimagines public spaces in cities across Australia and New Zealand for maximum social, economic and environmental benefit.

About Julia Suh
Urban Strategist and Founder, Urban Toolbox

Julia Suh is an urban strategist and the founder of Urban Toolbox: a human-centred design consultancy that transforms valuable urban spaces for the common good. Urban Toolbox takes practical approaches to social inclusion and community cohesion through placemaking and urban design, particularly with marginalised communities.

Julia has taught and practiced architecture, placemaking and urban design from New York, Auckland, Hanoi and Sydney, building an extensive knowledge of various communities; and urban spaces that support or neglect them.

Her work in stakeholder engagement, planning policy and urban research has been locally recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia, and internationally by The Guardian. Julia received her M.Arch. from Yale University and B.Arch. with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland.

This year, as part of Westpac Social Change Fellowship, Julia is visiting 15 cities to learn how they are addressing inequality via design and management of the public realm and bringing about positive change.
